How The Canary Events uses cookies and similar technologies.
Cookie categories
We group cookies and similar technologies into Necessary, Analytics, Advertising/Marketing and Personalization categories. Necessary cookies are always active because they support security, login, explicit website choices and core functions. The other categories are optional and are used only after your consent.
Language and saved events
The necessary LANG cookie stores your default site language for up to one year. On the first visit it is created from your browser's primary language (unsupported languages fall back to English). Any public URL without a language prefix is redirected to the matching /en/, /es/, /de/ or /fr/ version using LANG. Opening an explicit /en/, /es/, /de/ or /fr/ URL does not change LANG; it is updated only when you choose a language from the site language menu. Saved events may also be stored locally in your browser so you can return to them later.
Google and third-party technologies
Google Site Kit / Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity may load their consent-aware scripts before a choice is made, but optional storage starts denied. Our banner communicates your choice to WP Consent API so Site Kit can update Google Consent Mode, and sends Microsoft Clarity ConsentV2 signals. Analytics storage is granted only when Analytics is accepted; advertising storage only when Advertising/Marketing is accepted. Google ad personalization is allowed only when both Advertising/Marketing and Personalization are accepted.
First-party event and profile statistics
The Canary Events records limited first-party audience measurements such as event-listing impressions, event page views, share-button clicks, Add to Calendar clicks, directions clicks and event-website clicks. The same first-party system counts when an Artist or other Participant profile card is actually visible in a listing or event and when its public profile page is opened. A listing impression is counted only when an event card is actually visible on screen, and it is kept separate from an event page view. For event-page visits we may also store only a broad source category such as direct, Google, internal home page, internal search, internal listing, related event or other external source. The raw referrer URL and internal search term are not stored. These counters are used only to produce anonymous statistics for this website and are aggregated by event or profile, event date where relevant, language and day. This feature does not use analytics cookies, local storage, cross-site identifiers or fingerprinting, and we do not store IP addresses, user IDs, user agents or raw referrer URLs in the event-statistics database. It works independently of the optional Analytics-cookie choice. Granular daily rows are retained for no more than 25 months. Event organizers, participating artists and site administrators can view statistics for events they are allowed to manage. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity remain separate from these first-party counters; their consent-aware scripts may load, but analytics storage is granted only when Analytics is accepted.
Your choices
The banner offers Accept all, Reject all and Manage preferences. Necessary cookies are always active. Analytics, Advertising/Marketing and Personalization are optional and are not activated unless you choose them. Your selection is stored in a necessary consent cookie for up to 180 days so the website can remember it.
Changing or withdrawing consent
You can change your selection at any time using the Cookie settings control shown on the website or the Change cookie preferences button on this page. When you withdraw a previously granted optional category, the preference is updated immediately, WP Consent API, Google Consent Mode and Microsoft Clarity receive the new denied state, known related Google cookies are removed and Clarity is instructed to clear its cookies when Analytics consent is withdrawn. The page then reloads so the new choice applies consistently.
Managing cookies
You can also manage or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may affect language memory, saved events, login sessions or other website functions. Rejecting optional categories does not disable essential website functionality.
