As part of Tenerife Peñón Fest’s free cultural programme, the Palmetum terrace hosts a reading club devoted to Victim of My Spell: The Memoirs of Nina Simone by Eunice K. Waymon on Friday 16 October 2026, from 16:00 to 18:00. The session offers a close look at Nina Simone through her own memoirs and opens a group conversation about her artistic legacy, activism and the place of women in music history. It will be led by writer and journalist Anabel Vélez, a specialist in women’s role in music and culture. Vélez is head of communications at the Barcelona Film Commission, editor-in-chief of Culturaca and a regular contributor to Ruta 66. Her books include Rockeras, Mujeres del rock. Su historia, Mujeres en las series, Rockeras de la A a la Z and Divas del pop de la A a la Z. Participation is free, but advance registration through the festival’s official activities form is required because places may be limited.
