STARMUS VIII opens in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with The Symphony of Stars, a major evening where music and science share the same stage. The programme combines the tenth-anniversary ceremony of the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication with the inaugural Jane Goodall Earth Medal and a one-off concert led by Andrea Bocelli, Sir Brian May & Friends and Sarah Brightman.

The announced bill also includes Dino Jelusick and the STARMUS All Stars Band, with further special guests. The ceremony recognises outstanding work in science communication, education and leadership in protecting life on Earth; Brian Cox and Christiana Figueres are among the announced medal recipients.
